      About Hells Canyon National Recreation Area Hells Canyon National Recreation Area is reached via SRs 82 and 86 in northeastern Oregon and US 95 in western Idaho. The ,acre area straddles the Snake River Canyon and encompasses parts of national forests in both states. Seneca Rocks, established in , was the first of what is now a system of 22 Forest Service-managed NRAs (the National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management manage additional NRAs as well). Following a rush of set-asides through the s and ‘90s, the Mount Hood NRA was designated in and remains the most recent NRA.

      Hells Canyon National Recreation Area contains the deepest river gorge in North America, along with over , acres of adjacent land. Scenic vistas that rival any on the continent can be found here, as well as world-class whitewater rafting, vast reaches of remote wilderness for hikers or horseback riders, and diverse and abundant wildlife.   The public can comment on the Forest Service's proposed new year management plan for Hells Canyon National Recreation Area on the Idaho-Oregon border.

      Hells Canyon National Recreation Area was established by an Act of Congress in December At that time, the U.S. Forest Service, which administers most of the land included, was given the responsibility of developing a Comprehensive Management Plan for the NRA within five : David H. Blau, Michael C. Bowie, Frank Hunsaker.   They are the National Park Service, US Fish & Wildlife Service, US Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management. Together these four agencies make up for million acres of public land. The National Park Service is comprised of 62 National Parks and an additional units that are managed by the National Park Service.
